WILL BOYD
Coming to Tech after growing up in
a small town expanded my horizons in
terms of diversity of academic activities
and cultural opportunities, both on
campus and in metropolitan Atlanta. As
a physics and mathematics major, I have
found Tech's community of students
to be intellectually stimulating, from
random, late-night philosophical discussions
with friends to structured campus
interest groups.
Still, one of my most pleasant discoveries
has been the inclusive and
supportive network afforded by the
tightly knit Freshman Experience and
the President's Scholarship Program.
Since joining the Tech community,
one of my most rewarding experiences
was starting the alternative spring
break program, GT Trailblazers. With
the support and encouragement of the
Honors Program director, it has been
exciting to see my idea for this environmental
service project come to fruition
as I have worked with friends to plan
and coordinate a new opportunity for
fellow Tech students.
Beyond the academics and extracurricular
activities, I am looking forward
to traveling this summer on one of the
many study abroad programs available
at Tech. It will be an awakening experience
visiting Tokyo, Hong Kong, and
other urban centers in East Asia while
studying the development of the many
thriving new economies in the region.
"Will Boyd was one of
the top students
in my Honors
Calculus II class last fall. I met Will,
along with his classmates from the
Honors Program, at 8:00 a.m. on
their first day of classes, and these
intelligent, hard-working, and
fun-loving students exceeded all
of my expectations. Teaching them
was the most fun I’ve had in thirty
years here at Georgia Tech. Will is
a physics major. He plans to either
minor or dual major in mathematics,
and he particularly likes the
breadth of opportunities—including
international affairs and
humanities—we have here at
Georgia Tech in addition to our
traditional strengths in engineering,
science, and mathematics."
