Fall Retreat

Each year just before the beginning of the fall semester, incoming PS's are taken to Unicoi State Park for a retreat. This trip is an incredible experience to get to know other incredible PS's both in your year and upperclassmen before you actually get to college. In addition, you'll start to learn more about yourself, be prepared for your transition to Tech, and learn what it means to be a President's Scholar!

Fellowships/Scholarships Counseling

The Special Programs Office, of which the President's Scholarship Program is part, handles nominations for several prestigious national scholarships, including the Truman Scholarship, Rhodes Scholarship and Fulbright Fellowship. As President's Scholars, students will receive notification and guidance on all scholarship opportunities.

Guaranteed On-Campus Housing with Priority Selection

President's Scholars are guaranteed on-campus housing with priority selection while enrolled at Georgia Tech meaning they can most likely move into apartment style housing in their second year. Check out the dorms at the housing website.

GT 1000: Introduction to College Life Course

All incoming President's Scholars are required to take one of four special sections of GT 1000, "The Psychology of Adjustment to College Life". These sections are taught each fall exclusively for PSs.

GT 1000 is a 1-hour credit course designed to help new Georgia Tech freshmen in making the most of their college careers and beyond. Research has shown that students who take GT 1000 make better grades and have a more productive college experience.

If you are considering a co-op position, part-time job, or internship, this course will better prepare you by sharpening your resume writing and interview skills and teaching you how to research companies. You'll get a head start on learning how to use the Georgia Tech Library, how to manage your time and study skills, and you will receive guidance in career choice and development.

GT 1000 significantly aids in the transition to college life by introducing essential skills and techniques and providing valuable information about many aspects of campus life. It also provides the new class of President's Scholars with a way of meeting other new and current scholars.

Study Abroad Stipends

The Reginald S. Fleet International Scholarship provides about 50 students a year with stipends for study overseas, often during summer semester. The scholarships are typically worth $3,600.

In recent years, President's Scholars have traveled to Argentina, Barcelona, East Asia, Lorraine, Singapore, Mexico, England, Australia, and New Zealand. Check out the list of programs that Tech offers.
